Calvin Klein’s Eternity Summer 2011 opens with a sharp little pinch of coriander that quickly softens into a dewy violet and lily of the valley, all translucent green stems and barely-there petals. The heart turns creamier as gardenia and lotus glide in, but the jasmine keeps things from getting too syrupy, staying airy and polite. On the dry down, a faint powdery mimosa and a whisper of fig tree try to anchor it, but the musk is so sheer it feels like a handshake that never really closes. The overall character is a watercolor painting left out in the rain, pretty but already bleeding into blur. It smells natural enough, like a real garden after a light shower, but the construction feels distinctly mainstream, designed to please without challenging. Longevity is the real letdown here, barely three hours before you’re reapplying, and sillage hovers close to the skin like a secret you’re not sure you meant to share. This is for the woman who wants a soft, fresh floral for a brunch date or a breezy afternoon at the farmers market, not for anyone who expects a fragrance to last through dinner. Spring and summer mornings are its natural habitat, but if you need presence or staying power, skip it and let the garden speak for itself.
