Hysope
Fragrance notes
Character
Hysope by Chloé greets you with a burst of crushed petitgrain and neroli that feels like peeling a green twig under running water. The bergamot adds a zesty tremor, but it is the hyssop in the heart that gives this its spine, a camphorous, slightly medicinal green that recalls a herb garden after rain. Violet and rose water soften the blow, turning the green into something dainty and polite, like a linen blouse dried on a line in April. Then the drydown blooms with raspberry and tonka, a sugary whisper that tries to lend warmth but barely lingers.
This fragrance’s weakness is right there in the numbers: longevity sits at a measly 2.98, sillage at 2.24. It evaporates like a dewdrop on a violet leaf before noon. Beautiful while it lasts, but you will need to reapply by lunch. The overall character feels natural, vegetal, and emphatically mainstream in its restraint, never daring to shout. It is a spring-only affair, a morning spritz for a breezy day when you want to smell clean without announcing your arrival from three rooms away.
Who should wear it? Someone who prefers whispers to exclamations, who values the memory of a scent over its staying power. Skip it if you crave projection or want something that survives a workday. Wear it to brunch in April, to a botanical garden on a mild Saturday, or to a quiet office where you keep your favourite rollerball in your drawer. One rhetorical question: what else fades so prettily, leaving only a ghost of tonka on your wrist? 🌿
