Our take

A sharp citrus burst of lime and bergamot cuts through the air like a blade, but within minutes that brightness wilts into something far more decadent. Rose de Mai wraps around a jammy fig, while jasmine and ylang-ylang add a creamy, almost narcotic floral weight. The dry down is where Roja Dove earns his reputation: a thick, resinous oud wrapped in saffron’s metallic tang, ambergris’ salty warmth, and a dusting of cinnamon over patchouli and oakmoss. This is a fragrance that wears like a velvet-lined casket, dark, plush, and suffocatingly rich.

If I had to conjure one image, it would be a midnight auction in a mahogany-paneled room, where the lot is a single ruby the size of a quail’s egg. It feels unabashedly synthetic in the way all great luxury perfumery is, not natural but meticulously constructed, with every note polished to a glassy sheen. That polish is both its strength and its limitation. The sillage hovers at a restrained 3.81, so you won’t announce yourself from across a restaurant, but the longevity at 4.35 means you’ll still smell it on your coat three days later. It is heavy, sweet in a jammy, resinous way, and relentlessly warm.

Skip this if you prefer airy, transparent scents or anything that breathes. This is for the person who wants to smell like a million dollars in a single molecule, and who has the occasion to match it, a black-tie gala, a winter wedding, a night when the only acceptable note is opulence. Given its 100% winter and 87% fall preference, save it for cold weather, because anything above fifty degrees will turn that ambered oud into a sticky, cloying mess. A masterpiece, yes, but a very particular one.
