Aoud by Roja Dove opens with a bright citrus snap, lemon verbena and bergamot cutting through the air like a knife. But that freshness is fleeting. Within minutes, the heart swells with May rose and jasmine, creamy and indolic, while geranium adds a green, almost bitter edge. Then the base descends like a velvet curtain dropping on a gilded stage. Oud, leather, ambergris, saffron, and a whole spice rack of nutmeg and cinnamon lurch forward, all tangled with cashmere wood and vanilla. It is dense, dark, and shamelessly ornate.
This is not a fragrance for the timid. It feels like a library of rare materials crammed into a single bottle, a bit too eager to show off its references. The opening is the most elegant part, clean and herbal. But once the drydown settles, everything blurs into a sweet, woody, animalic haze that can feel cloying, especially indoors. The sillage is moderate, around 3.4 out of 5, and longevity is solid but not legendary for the price point. You will get six to seven hours before it becomes a skin scent.
Who should wear it? A person who loves opulent, spicy orientals and wants to smell expensive at a formal dinner or a winter gala. Skip it if you prefer airy, modern minimalism or anything with restraint. This scent is a crystalline chandelier in a room with already too many mirrors.
