Our take

The opening citrus feels thin, almost like a polite nod rather than a real statement, and it disappears before the rest of the composition has a chance to settle. Lemon and bergamot flash briefly, then give way to a heart where peach and may rose sit beside jasmine and orange blossom, all of it warmed by labdanum and geranium. The fruit is soft rather than juicy, the flowers are rich rather than fresh, and the transition feels hurried, as if the fragrance is eager to reach its true home in the base.

That base is where Fortnum & Mason The Perfume lives. Saffron and amber lead into a dense layer of castoreum, birch, and frankincense, with vanilla and benzoin smoothing the edges. Oakmoss and patchouli add earth, vetiver and sandalwood bring cream, and musk holds the shape close to the skin while the blend still reaches outward with ease. It is a space filled with dark wood, low light, and the quiet heat of a room that has been occupied for hours, the air thick with resin and worn leather.

Coriander and amyris weave through the smoke, and the scent stays present through a long evening without thinning or shifting into something sharp. It suits someone who enjoys a heavy, balsamic trail and does not mind a fragrance that asks for attention in a warm, layered way. The air feels heavier, the resin deepening with every breath, the leather and spice wrapping around the wearer like a second garment that refuses to fade
