Our take

Eau de Cedar opens with a tart, almost sour burst of rhubarb and cardamom, a weirdly mouthwatering start that suggests a green salad drizzled with something fizzy. That initial snap gives way to a heart of cypress, Granny Smith apple, and watermelon, a combo that could have been an abomination but instead plays out like the clean, chlorinated air of a public pool in June, all plastic fruit and wet leaves. The drydown reveals vetiver, amber, and patchouli, but they’re barely audible, hovering like a ghost cliché of woody warmth. The overall character is a glass of ice water with a single cucumber slice, refreshing and entirely forgettable. This is undeniably synthetic and resolutely mainstream, a 2012 “fresh aquatic for guys” that smells like a mall food court’s idea of nature. The numbers are brutally honest: longevity sits at 2.44 out of 5, sillage barely a whisper at 2.46, so you’ll need to spray like a fire extinguisher if you want anyone to notice after forty minutes. Wear it during a warm spring afternoon or a humid summer day when you have no intention of leaving the house for more than two hours. Skip it entirely if you want a fragrance that lasts past lunch, or if you have any affection for real wood or honest earth. This is a fleeting joke that’s pleasant for exactly as long as it stays, then becomes a memory of a guy who smelled okay for a bit.
