Our take

Mugler's Cologne does not bother with a pyramid so much as a single idea, stated three times: neroli, bergamot, and petitgrain, all citrus, all slightly bitter, layered until the orange peel smell turns almost cold. African orange flower rounds that opening out without adding sweetness, and musk sits underneath just enough to round out the sharpest citrus edges. There is no elaborate drydown to track here. It is built to be sprayed generously and topped up, not composed in three acts.

That simplicity is the whole appeal. Staying power runs a steady, unremarkable course, present but never clinging. Sillage settles into a small, warm zone around the wearer, easy to register with whoever is beside you, sprayed on as a small ritual rather than a one-time commitment. Someone hoping for complexity or a scent that unfolds slowly across several stages should look at a different Mugler bottle entirely.

Summer is where it belongs, worn straight out of a cold shower or freshened up from a bag on a hot afternoon. Spring works nearly as well. For plain, cold citrus with nothing to prove, Cologne is hard to beat.
