CK Free opens with a sharp, almost herbal snap of juniper berries and star anise, the wormwood lending a bitter green edge that stops just short of medicinal. That unexpected jackfruit note flickers through like a warm, slightly tropical sweetness, but it’s quickly reined in by a suede and tobacco heart that feels more like a brushed leather jacket than a heavy ashtray. The coffee is there, but it’s a dry coffee ground aroma, not a sweet latte, and the buchu adds a curious blackcurrant-like tang. On the drydown, Virginia cedar and oak take over, dry and woody with a whisper of patchouli to keep it grounded. The overall impression is that of a freshly sanded cedar plank left out in the sun to warm, clean and aromatic but with no resinous weight.
This is a crisp, fresh-spicy woody scent that leans pleasantly synthetic in the way of well-made designer aromatics, never muddy or cloying.
