Our take

Asateer Ruaa arrives with a heavy hand. The opening burst of black currant and red berries is loud and syrupy, leaning so far into sugar that it risks smelling like a sticky candy shop. Orange brightens the edges, but it cannot cut through the dense syrup. This sweetness feels a bit clumsy at first, lacking the airy lift that keeps a fruit top note from becoming overwhelming. It is a bold entrance that demands patience from the wearer, as the initial minutes are almost entirely about that heavy, candied fruit.

The scent settles into a much more interesting place once the jasmine and rose emerge alongside a thread of incense. The flowers add a classic, slightly powdery elegance that tempers the sugar, while the incense introduces a grey, smoky veil. This is where the oud and amber take hold, creating a deep, balsamic woodiness that feels appropriate for a dimly lit room where the air is cool and the night is quiet. The vanilla in the base rounds out the sharper edges of the resin, leaving a warm, oriental impression that suits someone who enjoys traditional Arabian perfumery. It is a fragrance that wraps around the wearer like a thick scarf, ideal for those moments when the air requires something substantial and rich to cut through the chill, lingering in the space between the fabric and the skin as the heavy notes continue to merge
