Our take

Baloak smells like a glass of red wine that has been poured over a stack of fresh oak planks. The blackberry and red wine opening gives it a dark, juicy fruitiness that immediately meets the heavy wood of the heart. Coconut adds a creamy, slightly tropical softness that keeps the oud and cognac from feeling too dry or aggressive. It is a woody and sweet composition that feels rich and textured, leaning into an earthy, aromatic profile that is dense without becoming cloying.

The iris pallida and iris butter provide a smooth, powdery elegance that lifts the heavier base notes. This is not a bright or airy scent. It feels grounded and mature, suited for cooler weather when you want a fragrance that feels substantial and warm. It works best for someone who enjoys gourmand elements but wants them anchored by serious wood rather than sugar. The blend feels intentional and polished, offering a modern take on oriental wood.

The limitation here is the galbanum. Its sharp, green edge clashes slightly with the creamy coconut and sweet wine, creating a brief moment of discord in the early stage. That herbal bite can feel out of place against the rich, dark fruit. If you prefer your woody scents to be seamless and perfectly smooth from the first spray, that small roughness might be enough to make you look elsewhere.
