Our take

A unisex scent that leans into quiet formality, Domus Tenebrosa fits best when the dress code calls for a jacket. It is the sort of thing one sprays on before a gallery opening or a dinner where the lighting is low and the conversation stays restrained. The person who wears it does not want to be the loudest person in the room, but they do want the room to notice they are there.

Bergamot and coriander hit first, bright and slightly peppery, but the juniper berries steer the opening away from a standard citrus splash. Neroli softens the edges without turning soapy, and the Brazilian rosewood adds a dry, faintly metallic woodiness that keeps the heart from feeling too floral. There is a distinct bitterness here that reads as sophisticated rather than harsh.

Frankincense and cedar anchor the base, giving the fragrance a resinous, almost churchy stillness that lingers in the fabric of a wool coat. It smells like a library that was built on a budget but furnished with excellent taste.
