Dragon's Reign opens with a bright bergamot that cuts through the earthy patchouli in the top layer. The citrus is sharp and clean, giving the entrance a clear lift before the heavier elements take hold. Patchouli here is damp and dark, providing a grounded contrast to the fruit.
The heart introduces lavender alongside a trio of spices. Nutmeg and Sichuan pepper create a tingling warmth, while star anise adds a distinct licorice-like sharpness. Lavender softens the intensity of the spices, turning the center into a cool, aromatic blend that feels structured rather than chaotic.
Vanilla in the base rounds out the sharper edges without turning the scent into a gourmand. It sits close to the skin, mixing with the remaining patchouli to create a powdery, soft spicy finish. The transition from the peppery heart to this creamy base is smooth and steady.
The composition is unified by its aromatic and floral accords, making it suitable for bright morning hours and open air. The vanilla is thin, however, and the anise can become piercing if the lavender does not temper it. The spice blend lacks depth, leaving the drydown feeling one-dimensional.
