Our take

Akro’s East opens with a raspberry so glossy and jammy it feels like you’ve bitten into a piece of fruit that’s been lacquered with amber. That initial sweetness is almost startling, a bright red burst against a dark backdrop. Then the oud and leather unfurl, but this isn’t smoky barnyard oud; it’s a polished, animalic leather smoothed into a cream, with the raspberry stubbornly clinging to its edges. The drydown settles into ambroxan’s clean, salty warmth, making the whole thing feel like a sweet, musky skin scent that never fully lets go of that fruity compass.

This fragrance is a velvet rope strung across a midnight boudoir: plush, inviting, but with a synthetic gleam that keeps it from feeling truly natural. Olivier Cresp dials the sweetness high enough that it borders on candied, which explains the modest 3.51 rating. The longevity and sillage are both moderate leaning low, so you’ll need to respray if you want to leave a trail, but for a night out in deep fall or winter, it stays present.

East suits those who enjoy a gourmand-oud hybrid, a sweet leather that doesn’t ask for permission. Skip it if you crave raw, medicinal oud or anything fresh and airy. It thrives after dark, on cool evenings, or at that point in a party where the lighting turns amber. Just don’t expect it to roar; it prefers to hum.
