Character
Jasmine Sambac is the obvious heart of Jasmin Noir, but almond is what makes it memorable, giving the white floral a nutty, faintly bitter sweetness rather than plain brightness. Gardenia barely gets a moment before almond and jasmine take over, which makes the opening feel quick and uncomplicated. Green notes open briefly before almond and jasmine take over for most of the ride. The sillage forms a bubble sized for close company, and it holds on for a moderate run once the base settles in.
Tonka bean and licorice add a dark, faintly bitter sweetness underneath, backed by precious woods and a soft musk. Precious woods is a vague enough note on paper, but here it reads as a smooth, slightly sweet backdrop underneath the sharper licorice. Patchouli and amber close things out warm and a little dry, keeping the nutty almond thread alive all the way to the end.
Cool weather brings out its best side, and it leans toward evening wear. The almond gives it a warm, nutty-sweet pull that carries all the way to the dry down, setting it apart from a plainer white floral composition.
