Our take

Keni is for the person who wants a fragrance to feel like a heavy wool coat draped over bare skin. It earns that place through a resinous weight that pulls together frankincense, myrrh, and labdanum into a single dark mass. The record lists cassia, cardamom, and calamus alongside this resin, and those fresh spicy notes do not lighten the blend. They sharpen the edges so the density stays dry rather than sweet. Australian sandalwood and Atlas cedar give the woody accord a firm structure, while the listed red wine and champaca add a rounded softness that keeps the resins from turning flat. Moroccan rose sits quietly inside that softness instead of reaching for attention.

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz composed a scent that fits a room lit only by a low fire, where the air is cool outside the window and the conversation has slowed. The camphor and mastic in the accords bring a clean, almost medicinal line through the balsamic warmth, so the whole picture stays grounded and serious. It is a fragrance that belongs to that firelit room, the glass of wine in hand, the resin smoke curling upward into the dark beams above.
