Our take

Rosemary and bergamot open M7 briskly before agarwood settles into the heart, dark and woody in a way few citrus openings prepare you for. Mandarin orange lingers at the edges just long enough to smooth the transition between the two. It clings on with real tenacity, unwilling to let go once it's settled in, and it announces itself clearly, registered by people well before they're close enough to talk. Vetiver deepens the oud further, adding a dry, earthy grip to the middle of the fragrance.

Amber and musk round out the base, powdery and warm without turning sweet, letting the oud stay the dominant note from open to close. Musk softens the driest edges of the wood just enough to keep the composition wearable rather than austere.

Cold weather is where M7 belongs, the wood and amber combination reading as substantial once the temperature drops, not heavy. Night wear suits it far better than daytime does, the oud and vetiver combination feeling too dense for a bright morning meeting.

Jacques Cavallier Belletrud and Alberto Morillas composed something dense and resolutely masculine in construction, the rosemary and bergamot at the top doing little to prepare you for how dark it turns by the time the oud and vetiver take hold.
