Noir de Mars opens with oud and guaiac wood standing side by side. Sandalwood smooths the edges without softening the structure. Cyperus esculentus brings a raw, earthy root quality that feels closer to soil than to spice.
Leather enters with gurjan balsam and myrrh. The leather is dry and textured, not polished. Balsam adds a gentle resinous weight, while myrrh carries a faint medicinal edge that keeps the heart from feeling too neat.
Amyris and amber form a dry, glowing base. The amber here is warm but restrained, never sugary. Amyris lends a clean woody lift that keeps the oud from dominating. Animalic and aromatic threads move through the foundation without ever becoming loud.
