Our take

Morning light fills a sunroom where a vase of fresh roses sits beside a bowl of black currants resting on a wooden table. The air carries the dewy opening of rose petals mixed with the tart, juicy skin of the fruit. As the moment settles, white flowers and peony join the main bloom, creating a lush floral heart that feels alive and green rather than powdered or dry. The greenery keeps the bouquet bright, while a soft spicy thread moves through the stems and leaves. Christophe Raynaud composed this 2024 release for Rubeus as an oriental floral that stays firmly on the feminine side of the spectrum. The flowers here are not arranged for a formal event. They grow wildly in a space where a window is open and the air moves freely.

The base arrives without breaking the scene. Amber and vanilla add a warm, rounded softness to the petals, but the unusual presence of rubber pulls the fragrance toward something textured and animalic. It smells like the interior of a classic convertible parked in the driveway, the warm amber and vanilla clinging to the leather and rubber of the seats while the rose from the garden blows in through the open window. The fruit and the fresh green stems float above that grounded, slightly industrial scent. The combination is unusual and memorable, placing a traditional flower against a modern, slightly raw material that refuses to let the composition sit quietly in a typical floral lane.
