Santal
Fragrance notes
Character
Santal by Fragonard opens with a brisk, citrus-laced greenness, green mandarin and lemon sharpened by cypress into something almost architectural, a clean shade under a southern sun. The heart brings myrtle and rosemary, herbal and slightly bitter, like crushed leaves against hot skin. Then the sandalwood settles in, soft and powdery, held by a whisper of musk that never turns creamy or sweet. This is a sandalwood stripped of its usual hedonism, rendered as a pale, airy scent.
The overall character reads like a linen shirt drying on a terrace in Provence, sunlight bleaching out any hint of indulgence. It feels natural and sheer, more mainstream in its clean restraint than niche, but not dull. The problem is that it barely speaks. With longevity around three hours and sillage that stays close to the wrist, this fragrance asks you to lean in and then vanishes. It is a vapor, not a statement.
It suits anyone who wants a brief, polite wood for work or a spring afternoon reading in a garden. Skip it if you crave presence, warmth, or a scent that lasts through dinner. Wear it on a clean, cool day when you want to smell like nothing more than fresh laundry and faint, dusted wood. A lovely ghost of a fragrance, but a ghost nonetheless.
