Our take

You get a blast of ginger and citrus, bright and sharp like a cold knife on a root. But this is no sunny cologne. The ginger quickly recedes, letting the vetivers take over: Haitian’s earthy, smoky green and Java’s darker, grassier depth. Together they smell like pulling a fresh carrot out of damp soil, then rubbing it on a cedar beam. The drydown adds ambrette’s soft, musky warmth, which rounds off the edges without sweetening the core.

This is a green fragrance that feels entirely natural, almost raw. It has the weight of a wool sweater after a spring rain. But it lacks projection and longevity. A sillage of 2.43 and 3.22 hours mean you’re wearing this for yourself, not for the room. On skin it fades to a whisper within three hours, which is a shame for a scent this well composed. Reapplication is a must.

It suits someone who loves dirt and peel, not flowers or vanilla. If you want a true vetiver that stays close to the earth, this is your quiet companion. Skip it if you crave longevity or a crowd-pleasing sparkle. Wear it on a cool spring afternoon, when the ground is still wet, or on a fall walk through wet leaves. It thrives in the season’s shoulder, not the heat of summer or the dead of winter. For a pure, unadorned vetiver experience, this is a beautiful, fleeting root garden you have to keep revisiting.
