VSOP Classic
Fragrance notes
VSOP Classic opens with a noticeable synthetic edge. The pink pepper and green mandarin combine into a sharp, slightly plastic citrus that lacks natural brightness. Nutmeg adds a dusty warmth that does not fully smooth out the top notes, leaving an initial impression that feels more chemical than fresh.
The heart shifts toward a dense earthiness. Patchouli dominates here, heavy and soil-like, while vetiver contributes a dry, grassy texture. Cedar provides a sturdy wooden backing that keeps the composition grounded. This phase is masculine and serious, trading vibrancy for a dark, aromatic weight that sits close to the skin.
Base notes introduce frankincense and musk to soften the earthy core. The frankincense adds a resinous, balsamic quality that feels warm and slightly sweet. Musk rounds out the edges, making the final drydown smoother than the opening. It is a straightforward transition from sharp spice to warm, amber-heavy wood.
The overall character is best described as a cracked terracotta pot filled with dry cedar chips and resin.
