Our take

Black tea and saffron give Eau Duelle a dry opening, an unusual pairing against the bourbon vanilla and ambergris waiting underneath. The saffron gives the opening a faintly bitter edge that softens once the vanilla starts to build underneath. Cardamom and pink pepper add a spiced lift, and elemi resin and olibanum keep the middle resinous even as vanilla works to soften it, the balance shifting slowly toward warmth.

Longevity sits at an in-between point, neither brief nor stubborn, and the sillage sits right against the skin, a private mix kept mostly to yourself. Fall and winter suit it, when the dry spice and resin feel warm rather than dusty.

Vanilla fans tired of gourmand sweetness should find this an interesting swap, though someone wanting a louder amber should look further afield. The black tea note never fully disappears, resurfacing faintly whenever the vanilla warms on skin, and the ambergris sits underneath the whole thing, a warm, faintly skin-like presence holding the spice together. The note that outlasts the rest is a pinch of black tea leaves left steeping too long, gone bitter and warm at the same time.
