Italian cypress opens Tam Dao Eau de Toilette with a green, resinous snap, more forest than garden, giving way within the first minutes to a long stretch of sandalwood that is really the point of the whole fragrance. Diptyque built this around wood rather than florals or citrus, and the honesty of that choice is what makes it stand out: there is no top-note distraction here, just cedar and sandalwood doing the work.
Brazilian rosewood joins the sandalwood in the base, adding a faint sweetness that softens the wood's edge, and a whisper of amber underneath gives it warmth without pulling focus. The whole composition stays close to the skin, more like a warm wooden surface than a cloud you walk through.
Its projection is private, the kind of sillage you would only notice on your own wrist or on someone standing right beside you. Longevity is average too, present at a steady pace before settling quietly into skin. Fall is where it shines brightest, though its restraint makes it just as believable in a spring or winter rotation. Wood is the entire point here, not decoration around it.
