Missoni
Fragrance notes
Character
Missoni Missoni opens with a blast of aldehydes that feel like cold champagne fizz against a fistful of raspberry jam, sharpened by hyacinth and cassia. The bergamot cuts through, but this isn’t a fresh start. It’s a brazen one. The heart settles into a powdery iris and rose, with ylang ylang and jasmine lending a honeyed, almost syrupy sweetness, while geranium keeps things slightly bitter. Then the base arrives, and this is where the perfume reveals itself as a dusty attic of vintage opulence: oakmoss, honey, civet, styrax, amber, and patchouli collide into a warm, animalic hug that clings to the skin for a solid six hours. The sillage is a modest arm’s length, which is appropriate for something this dense.
The overall character is that of a thrifted mink coat found in a cedar trunk, slightly yellowed but still exuding an old-world glamour. It feels unabashedly synthetic in its aldehydic sparkle, yet deeply natural in its earthy, sweet animalics. This is not a niche curiosity; it’s a lost mainstream classic from 1981, and it wears like a confident aunt who smokes clove cigarettes at dusk. It suits anyone who loves a bold, floral oriental with a dirty underbelly, but skip it if you prefer clean, airy scents or can’t stomach civet’s furry warmth. Wear it in autumn or winter, preferably for a night out or a rainy afternoon when you want to feel like you’re wearing armor made of velvet.
