Joe Camel opens with a somewhat muddled blend. The bergamot and black currant provide a bright, fruity introduction, but the early ambergris feels slightly sharp and synthetic next to the geranium. This initial phase lacks a clear direction, as the citrus and the mineral note compete rather than complement each other. The transition feels busy, with too many distinct elements fighting for attention at once.
The heart settles into a dense, green floral arrangement. Two distinct roses mingle with cypress and oakmoss, creating a damp, forest-like atmosphere. Incense adds a resinous weight that anchors the jade flower, though the overall impression remains heavy. The shift from the bright top to this shadowed, aromatic center is abrupt, moving the scent from confusing to intensely serious without much grace.
The base is a massive collection of woods and earth. Thailand oud and Malaysian oud sit alongside cedar, hemlock, and fir, supported by patchouli and vetiver. Opoponax and natural musk provide a deep, animalic warmth that lingers heavily on the skin. Wear this during cool autumn evenings when a complex, resinous wood profile is appropriate for the weather.
