Myriad
Fragrance notes
Character
Myriad opens with a crisp, almost metallic strike of saffron, like the snap of a cold leather glove. That sharpness softens into a duo of roses, Bulgarian and Grasse, but this is no dewy floral bouquet. The roses are dusty, darkened by a looming Assam oud that never quite turns medicinal, kept in check by ambrette’s musky sheen and a whisper of cacao lending a bitter cocoa powder edge. The dry down settles into a warm, slightly tobacco-tinged skin scent, white musk smoothing over the oud’s rough corners.
The overall character is a shadowed velvet curtain embroidered with rusted bronze threads. It feels heavy but not syrupy, more natural than synthetic, though the metallic accord keeps it from being cozy. When is this for, really? It’s a winter night fragrance, all 100% seasonal preference and a 94% night rating. Longevity is a beast at 4.51, sillage a polite but present 4.25, so one spray lingers through dinner and into a late evening walk.
It suits someone who wants the opulence of rose-oud without the aggressive barnyard, someone who appreciates a leather accent that’s more abstract than literal. Skip it if you crave brightness or find saffron and metallic notes headache-inducing. Myriad is not a crowd-pleaser, and the middling 3.68 rating reflects a love-it-or-passe divide, but for those it clicks with, it’s a brooding, elegant companion for cold air and dim lamplight.
