Parfait d’Orchidee opens with a surprising push of incense and ginger, the jasmine tucked behind like a silk curtain. It is smoky, almost edgy for Zara, but then the iris and benzoin step in to powder everything into submission. On dry down, it settles into a sweet vanilla ambergris base with a faint animalic warmth, like a cashmere scarf that has been worn three days too many. The whole composition feels like a candle left burning in an abandoned hotel lobby, elegant but slightly forgotten.
This is not a screamer. With a sillage rating hovering near 2.5 and longevity just north of three, it stays close to the skin and fades within four hours. That makes it ideal for an afternoon coffee date or a quiet dinner where you want to smell good without announcing your arrival. It is powdery, balsamic, and sweet in a synthetic mainstream way, lacking the depth a Jo Malone name might imply but charming enough for the price.
Wear this in fall or winter when the vanilla and incense can wrap around your coat.
