Veilleur de Nuit
Fragrance notes
Character
Veilleur de Nuit opens with a blast of raw, bitter cacao dusted over tuberose’s creamy indoles, like a dark chocolate bar left to melt on a warm fur coat. The animalics arrive quickly, civet and castoreum dragging the floral into something thick and primal, while vetiver adds a green, smoky anchor. In the dry down, the sweetness of the chocolate softens into a musky, leather-tinged powder, but the beast remains breathing beneath. This is the scent of a locked room at midnight, velvet curtains trembling from a draft, a half-eaten truffle on a silk pillow.
It feels heavy, almost suffocatingly rich, but natural in its composition, niche through and through. The sillage is a whisper, not a shout; you have to lean in to catch the dirty tuberose and castoreum. That suits this fragrance’s introverted drama. Longevity is decent but not heroic, fading to a skin-sweet musk after four hours.
Who should wear it? Someone who wants to smell edible and feral at once, a person who enjoys being a secret. Skip it if you need projection or if white florals turn to soap on your skin. Wear it to a winter night out, a gallery opening, or a solitary evening when you want to smell like expensive decay. The rating is fair, because this is a bold construction held back by its own shyness.
