Wanted by Night
Fragrance notes
Character
Cinnamon, mandarin orange, lavender and lemon crowd the opening of Wanted by Night, spicy and citrus at once, brighter than the name suggests for the first few minutes. Fruity notes and incense move into the heart, and cumin adds a raw, earthy warmth that pushes the whole accord in a darker direction. Red cedar sits quietly in the heart too, easy to miss next to the louder incense and cumin, adding a dry, woody thread that carries straight into the base.
Tobacco, leather, cedar, cypress, benzoin and patchouli crowd the base, and Iso E Super smooths the transition between all of them into something woody and slightly synthetic-clean, more polish than rustic edge. Benzoin in particular gives the base a resinous sweetness that balances all that dry wood and leather.
It keeps going strong for the whole of the wear, and the sillage stays noticed only up close, an intimate scale for a composition this dense and dark. Fall and winter fit it best, and night is clearly its element. The spice-and-leather combination works best against cold air, where it comes across as warmth rather than heaviness in a warm room. Density is the whole appeal here, not reach, and that trade is deliberate.
