Santal Majuscule
Fragrance notes
Character
Santal Majuscule works with just three notes, sandalwood, damask rose and cacao, and that minimalism is the whole risk of buying it: there's nowhere for the composition to hide if any one of the three doesn't work on your skin. Sandalwood carries most of the weight, creamy and a little dusty, giving off a warm, dry wood character that never turns sweet or milky the way some commercial sandalwood accords do. Cacao sits underneath it like bitter, unsweetened chocolate, adding a dark edge instead of any real sugar.
Rose shows up mostly as a powdery, slightly dry counterpoint, never sweet or jammy, giving the whole thing a woody, spicy character well ahead of anything conventionally soft and floral. It settles into a modest bubble around the wearer and holds on for a good long while once it's down to the sandalwood-cacao base. This one belongs to fall and winter almost entirely, the kind of dry, wood-forward scent that gets better as the air gets colder, and it works best on someone who already trusts sandalwood enough to wear it nearly alone.
