Our take

Lyric Woman isn't built for versatility, and that's worth knowing going in: cardamom, cinnamon and ginger open hot and heavily spiced, the kind of opening that would feel wrong on a warm day and only really makes sense once the temperature drops. Daniel Maurel's structure skips the easy, all-season rose route entirely and goes straight for something heavier.

Rose does eventually arrive, backed by ylang-ylang, orris root and jasmine, but it comes through dusty and serious rather than bright, more incense-adjacent than the average rose heart. By the base, sandalwood, patchouli and oakmoss deepen everything further, and a genuinely smoky incense note runs underneath the whole composition, giving it real gravity.

Sillage stays modest, a warm cloud that mostly stays with the wearer, its spice noticeable mainly up close, and the wear holds on for a long stretch once the drydown sets in. This isn't a fragrance that fades fast, staying recognizably itself well past the opening spice rush, just quieter by then.

Wear it for fall and winter, evenings especially, and expect something dense and a little severe, not conventionally pretty. It rewards patience and cold weather in equal measure, and by the time the incense and sandalwood fully take hold, Lyric Woman feels less like a rose and more like a warm, spiced piece of amber.
