Our take

The sun has just set over a stone courtyard in Oman. Cool air drifts across the terrace where a single bowl of fresh rose petals rests near a burning brazier. Frankincense coils upward in a thin, steady ribbon, while sandalwood and labdanum add a creamy, resinous weight to the air. The scent does not shout across the space. It surrounds the person seated nearest to the bowl, wrapping them in a warm amber and balsamic haze that others notice only when they lean in close.

Cécile Zarokian composed this 2021 release for Amouage as a unisex oriental floral. The rose here is not a bright, dewy garden flower. It carries a powdery, dried character that aligns with the warm spicy and fresh spicy accords. The balsamic touch of the labdanum gives the blend a slightly sticky, golden texture, while the woody backbone keeps the floral sweetness grounded and mature.

This is a fragrance that stays with you through a long evening. Its presence endures on the skin without needing a top-up, though it remains personal rather than expansive. It suits cooler nights and formal dinners where a subtle, lingering trail matters more than filling the room.

The entire scene smells like a carved wooden chest that has held rose petals and incense for decades, finally opened in the dark.
