Purpose 50 opens with a sharp, almost aggressive pop of pink pepper and pimento, the frankincense smoldering underneath like embers in a brass censer. The bergamot is there, but it's the spice and smoke that demand attention. As it develops, the heart reveals a creamy sandalwood cushioned by papyrus and a ghost of rose that never turns floral, only resins and dusty vetiver. The dry down is where it earns its keep: akigalawood and suede fused with a vanilla that has been dipped in saffron, creating a sweet, leathery warmth that clings to skin for well over ten hours. This is not a whisper; the sillage is a confident four out of five, trailing a dense, aromatic cloud behind you.
The overall character is that of a perfectly aged leather-bound journal, its pages stained with incense smoke and a single dried pink peppercorn pressed between them. It feels natural and synthetic in equal measure, the mystikal and akigalawood giving a polished, modern edge to the otherwise classic woody-spicy structure. It leans niche, but not incomprehensibly so. This is a cold-weather scent through and through, with 100% winter suitability and heavy autumn wear. It demands a crisp coat, a fireside chair, and an evening event. Skip it if you live in perpetual summer or prefer airy, translucent scents. For the rest, this is Quentin Bisch’s most focused, wearable leather-woody composition yet, and the ratings speak for themselves.
