Our take

London opens with a jarring slap of cumin and black pepper, the kind of spice that makes you wonder if you’ve accidentally wandered into a souk’s back alley. The saffron and coffee add a dry, bitter edge, while cardamom and coriander try to soften the blow, but this is not a fragrance that wants to be liked right away. It develops slowly, reluctantly, as incense and labdanum rise through the heat like smoke from a censer swinging in a cold cathedral. The jasmine and geranium are barely whispers, just enough to keep the heart from turning too austere. On the dry down, the base reveals itself: a leathery, almost medicinal oud propped up by birch, cedar, and a musky ambergris-like warmth. The whole effect is a damp wool overcoat left hanging in a dimly lit club, absorbing the scent of spilled whiskey and burnt incense. It feels heavy, smoky, and unapologetically synthetic in the most intentional way, more niche than mainstream but still wearing its designer bones. The performance is the honest weakness here: longevity barely reaches four hours on most skins, and sillage stays close after the first hour, which is a shame for a scent this dark and brooding. This one suits the man who dresses for November rain, someone who wants to smell like a mood rather than a compliment. Skip it if you prefer freshness or anything cheerful. Wear it on a chilly evening in the city, when the streetlights are wet and you’re heading somewhere that doesn’t require small talk. 🌧️
