Our take

Truffle next to rose is not a combination most fragrances attempt, and Noir de Noir leans all the way into it. Saffron opens things with a sharp, slightly leathery spice, but it's the heart where the fragrance turns strange.

A dark, brooding rose sits right beside truffle's damp, earthy funk, and anyone expecting a conventional rose fragrance will find this considerably stranger than the name promises. Floral notes soften that pairing just slightly, but patchouli and oakmoss pull it right back into earthy, mossy territory.

Agarwood adds a dry, resinous woodiness that deepens the whole thing further, and vanilla is the only real sweetness in the entire structure, warming the base without lightening the mood much. It holds its shape well after it goes on, and the sillage wafts just enough to be caught mid-conversation, close and quiet.

Cold weather and nighttime are where this makes the most sense, especially once the rose and truffle have had time to fully merge with the earth and wood underneath. The rose that survives to the drydown is dark and unfamiliar, nothing like the polite florals the name's darkness might suggest.
