Our take

Craze opens with a curious handshake between heliotrope’s powdery almond dust and cumin’s sour sweat, softened by a bergamot that feels more candied than citrusy. That cumin is the troublemaker here, giving an almost curry-like warmth that some noses will find challenging, but it settles quickly into the heart’s bitter almond and lavender. The jasmine and sage add a faint floral-green contrast, though the composition stays squarely in sweet territory. Once the dry down hits, vanilla and amber take over, wrapping the sandalwood in a thick, syrupy blanket that smells less like a barbershop shave and more like a custard-crusted beignet left out on a winter counter. This is an Oriental Fougere with the volume turned down on the herbs and up on the dessert.

The overall character reminds me of a vintage barber’s chair that someone has lacquered with honey and nutmeg. It is undeniably sweet and powdery, leaning synthetic in a way that feels intentional for its price bracket, but the saffron-like cumin and bitter almond keep it from being cloyingly childish. With longevity around three and a half hours and sillage that hugs close after an initial burst, Craze is a decent performer for the cost, not a beast. It thrives in deep autumn and winter evening wear, where its warm gourmand facets can bloom without turning gummy. Best for the guy who wants a sweet, cozy scent without spending niche money, but skip it if you need airy freshness or heavy projection.
