Lemon, pineapple and bergamot open Club de Nuit Intense Man loud and citrus-sweet, black currant and apple adding a darker fruit note underneath the brightness. Longevity runs long-lasting, and the sillage is a modest bubble, noticed at close range rather than across a hallway.
Birch gives the heart a faint leathery smoke, rose and jasmine adding a soft, sweet note against all that sharpness. Patchouli sits underneath them, giving the heart a woody depth most citrus openers never bother building toward. Musk, ambergris and patchouli round out the base, warm and slightly musky by the end of the wear.
Aromatic touches run through the middle of the composition, and the fresh citrus opening never fully disappears even once the leather and smoke take over on the skin. It suits daytime easily, spring through summer especially, and smells considerably more expensive than what it actually costs at retail. Few fragrances in this particular price range manage to layer citrus, leather and musk this cleanly, without one note ever drowning out the others, and that balance is really the whole appeal of the bottle.
