Our take

Club de Nuit Oud opens like a fruit punch spilled across a polished wooden floor, syrupy and bright with peach, pineapple, and plum duking it out for attention before the bergamot cuts through with a sharp, sour edge. This is a synthetic, loud, overtly commercial construction from Armaf, and it owns that fact without apology. The heart drifts into a powdery, cashmere-and-jasmine haze where the violet leaves add a faint, green-tinged softness, but the sweetness refuses to step aside. Then the base arrives, and here is where the fragrance earns its name: Cambodian oud wrapped in vanilla and crystal amber, animalic yet smoothed over with white musk, like a wild boar dressed in a candy coating.

The effect is a strangely compelling contrast, a fruity oud for people who want the smoke without the fire. It lasts well past the 4 out of 5 longevity mark with sillage that hovers but doesn’t suffocate, though the opening feels labored, almost cloying, until the dry down settles into something warmer and more wearable. This is for the man or woman who wants to smell expensive at a house party, not at a boardroom. Skip it if you prefer natural, restrained ouds, or if sickly-sweet fruit notes give you a headache. Wear it on a cool spring evening or a crisp winter night, when the air can absorb its sticky, powdery richness and the amber can bloom without turning cloying. Is there a place for a perfume that smells like a boozy smoothie spilled on vintage leather? Absolutely, just not every day.
