Start with lemon leaf and bergamot, green and bright, before tamarind adds an odd, faintly sour twist and elemi brings a resinous edge underneath. White pepper, nutmeg and cardamom take over next, warm and a little sharp, and violet softens all that spice with a powdery, slightly sweet note by contrast. The tamarind is the strangest part of the whole opening, more the kind of note you would find in a spice rack than a bottle of citrus cologne.
Cedar, musk, oakmoss and amber settle into the base, dry and a touch mossy, mellowing the spice into something rounder by the drydown. The oakmoss especially gives it a slightly dusty, old-fashioned quality that the bright citrus opening never hints at.
Wear time has a fair, unspectacular pace, neither quick to fade nor slow to let go. What it gives off is understated, the kind of thing you would only notice standing right beside the wearer. Lalique White suits spring and summer best, its sour tamarind and green lemon leaf giving the warm spices something bright to sit against all the way through the wear.
