Issey Miyake’s Summer 2017 flanker opens with a bright, almost tart burst of grapefruit and kiwi, the kiwi lending a fuzzy, green sweetness that coriander’s herbal edge keeps from tipping into fruit punch territory. That pineapple and nutmeg heart is where the thing gets interesting: the pineapple is less sun-drenched and more crushed, almost savory, while nutmeg adds a soft, peppery warmth that prevents the whole affair from evaporating into simple citrus. The drydown retreats to a clean cypress and vetiver base, woody and slightly earthy, but it’s a quiet landing.
This is a fleeting, delicate summer scent. Longevity sits around two to three hours before it becomes a skin scent, and sillage is polite at best you’re not making an entrance, you’re offering a quick hello as you pass. It feels like a cold kiwi slice pressed against the back of a sunburned neck, refreshing but gone before you fully register it. The composition is natural-leaning synthetic fresh, nothing niche, but competent and pleasant.
Who should wear it? Anyone who wants a light, aromatic spritz for scorching afternoons, daytime only, no evening depth. Skip it if you need projection or endurance this one asks you to reapply, which is fine for the price. Best worn on a beach boardwalk or a terrace where the heat amplifies its fleeting charm. One rhetorical question: does every summer release need to thunder? No, some can just whisper and vanish, and this one does that nicely.
