Hacivat opens with pineapple, grapefruit and bergamot, a tropical, slightly tart top that has little in common with the dry chypre it eventually becomes. Cedar, patchouli and jasmine carry the transition through the heart, and by the base, oakmoss and woody notes take over almost entirely, mossy and earthy in a way that feels genuinely old-school. The jasmine is a brief bridge between the two halves, easing the shift from tropical fruit to dry moss, and the grapefruit keeps reappearing faintly even once the woody base has taken over.
That contrast between the fruit-forward opening and the dry, mossy drydown is the whole appeal. The composition stays put well into the dry, mossy drydown, and the sillage announces itself, substantial enough to notice on someone else well before you catch their eye.
The patchouli and oakmoss give it a slightly bitter, earthy backbone that runs under the fading pineapple sweetness, grounding the whole thing firmly in chypre territory rather than fruity cologne territory. The cedar in the heart adds a final layer of structure, giving the whole drydown real weight.
This suits anyone nostalgic for the mossy chypres of decades past, updated with a fruitier opening than the genre traditionally offers.
