Our take

Elle Anniversary opens like a glass of blush-coloured punch at a garden party, all fizzy red fruits, lychee, and a crisp green apple snap that bergamot pulls taut. The first ten minutes are practically effervescent, a sugared tartness that feels more mainstream-glossy than Xerjoff’s usual opulence. Then the heart steps in: peony and jasmine go powdered and polite, but the licorice root adds a black, almost salty twist that keeps it from being a snooze. Cashmere wood gives a soft, pillowy warmth underneath, though it never fully commits to being a woody scent. The drydown is a faint musk-and-amber vanilla, with sandalwood and patchouli barely whispering from the back row.

This is a fragrance that evaporates like morning dew on a hot patio. The longevity barely scrapes three hours, and the sillage is a respectful arm’s length at best, which is frankly frustrating for the price tag. It feels like a beautiful chiffon scarf you have to keep adjusting: lovely while it lasts, but gone before you’ve finished brunch. Wear it on a sun-drenched spring afternoon when you want something pretty and undemanding, not a statement. It suits the woman who likes her florals dipped in fruit and prefers delicate to dramatic. Skip it if you crave presence or a scent that will hold through dinner. Elle Anniversary is a fleeting, pleasant memory, not an heirloom.
