Our take

You know a fragrance is serious when it opens with wormwood and artemisia, a green slap that tastes like bitter herbs and absinthe hangovers. Viride by Orto Parisi doesn’t so much announce itself as step into the room carrying a scythe. Alessandro Gualtieri stuffs that top note with enough lavender to soften the blow, but the heart of jasmine swings the opposite direction, creamy and almost narcotic, forcing the greenery to play nice with something sweeter and more seductive. The dry down is where it finds its footing: fir, juniper, cedar and tobacco stacked like cordwood, with a musk base that clings just enough to the skin without shouting. This is the scent of a weed-choked forest after a thunderstorm, wet wood and crushed stems, resin and petrichor all tangled together. It feels natural but not naive, niche in the best sense, too complex for a mall counter. Longevity runs solid for a working day, though sillage stays close to the chest, a personal cloud rather than a room filler. That moderate projection is the only weakness. Wear this in spring or fall, daytime when the light is gray and the air is cool. It suits anyone who wants to smell like they just walked out of a dense thicket, but skip it if you lean toward sweet, crowd pleasing blasts. Do you really want to smell like every other guy on the elevator?
