Our take

Neroli, cardamom and bergamot open Prada Amber Pour Homme on a bright, spiced citrus note before myrrh and orange blossom crowd into a heart already thick with musk, geranium and vetiver. Daniela Andrier built the base around saffron, vanilla, labdanum, tonka bean, leather and sandalwood together, and the amber character it's named for comes through as much from that dense base as from any single note in it. Cardamom and neroli fight for space early on, one warm and spiced, the other cool and slightly bitter, before the amber base settles the argument.

The leather-and-amber base holds its warmth for a long while, and sillage stays warm and near, wrapping the wearer without pushing much beyond that. Spring carries the highest season figures, with fall and winter both close behind, and the day numbers run well ahead of night, making this a fragrance for sunlit hours nearly any time of year.

The saffron and leather together give this an unusual dryness against all that amber sweetness, more spice rack than skin cream. It smells confident without being loud, warm rather than sweet, and holds its shape across a genuinely wide seasonal range. Vetiver and geranium add a green, slightly bitter thread underneath all that amber, pulling the drydown toward something drier than straight sweetness.
