Fragrance notes
Dreamer pairs tobacco with rose in its heart, an old-school combination that gives the fragrance a slightly dusty, vintage character from the first minutes. Lavender, sage, and mandarin orange open on a herbal, faintly bitter note typical of a nineties fougere, and carnation with geranium add a spicy, green edge to the rose before tobacco takes the fragrance somewhere warmer and drier. Tonka bean, fir, and vetiver in the base bring it to a woody, slightly sweet close, cedar giving the whole thing a dry backbone beneath the tonka's sweetness, and the whole arc from herbal to woody feels deliberate rather than accidental.
Composed by Jean-Pierre Bethouart, it belongs to a specific moment in men's perfumery, when lavender and tobacco fougeres were common and rose in a masculine fragrance was not considered strange. Fans of that older, formal register will find plenty to like in the dry, tobacco-and-wood finish, and the rose gives the whole thing a softer edge than a stiff, old-fashioned fougere usually has. It wears its history openly, with no interest in chasing a more modern trend, and that honesty is part of its appeal even now.
