Our take

The sillage on Crystal Noir is a modest bubble, picked up mostly by anyone standing close. It's a soft way to carry a composition that is otherwise fairly bold on paper: pepper, ginger and cardamom open warm and a little sharp, then coconut, gardenia, orange blossom and peony bring in a creamy, lactonic white floral heart. Ginger in particular keeps the opening lively, giving it a spiced, slightly effervescent energy before the creamier notes take hold.

Sandalwood, musk and amber settle into a soft, powdery base, and longevity is long-lasting, sticking around comfortably once it's on. The coconut and lactonic quality give the florals a creamy, almost milky texture, more suncream on skin than a straightforward floral bouquet.

Night wear is clearly where it belongs, and fall and winter suit it best, with spring holding up only marginally by comparison and summer largely absent from where it performs well. The spice-into-creamy-floral shift is what makes it interesting, warm pepper and cardamom giving way to something softer, creamier and rounder by the finish, coconut lingering longest of anything in the blend.
