Our take

The opening is a strange, bitter green that catches the nose off guard. That carrot note is not a sweet vegetable accent. It is earthy, raw, and slightly dirty, rubbing against the sharp bite of galbanum and the sour edge of bergamot. This combination feels less like a polished citrus start and more like a garden pulled straight from the soil. It is an acquired taste that immediately tells you this is not a safe blind buy for someone who wants a clean, easy orange spritz.

Once the initial shock settles, the heart turns warm and prickly. Rose pushes through the green stems, but it is not a soft petal scent. Nutmeg and pepper give it a dry, dusty heat that keeps the florals from feeling pretty. It is a rugged, masculine floral that sits heavy in the air. The spice does not soften the edges of the top notes. Instead, it adds a rough texture that makes the whole composition feel a bit uncoordinated and harsh.

The drydown is where the leather arrives in full force. Castoreum and styrax create a dark, animalic skin that is thick and smoky. Cedar and patchouli anchor the base, giving it a woody depth that feels very traditional. The transition from that raw carrot opening to this heavy leather is a long journey. The scent becomes dense and serious, moving far away from that initial bright citrus into a shadowy, resinous space.

The real issue is that bitter green opening. It clashes with the leather drydown so sharply that the fragrance feels like two different ideas forced together. The carrot and galbanum never quite blend into the rose and castoreum. It is a disjointed ride that asks the wearer to endure a harsh start for a payoff that feels miles away from where it began.
