Eternity for Men Summer 2011 opens with a slap of bright citrus and mint that is almost aggressively fresh, like cracking a cold soda on a sidewalk that shimmers with heat. The coriander adds a faint green bite that keeps it from being purely zesty, and then the heart turns unexpectedly licorice-sweet with star anise. A ghost of galbanum and lily-of-the-valley tries to ground it in something dewy and green, but the star anise stays front and center, giving the whole thing a slightly synthetic, candied edge that feels unmistakably like a Calvin Klein limited edition. The dry down is a whisper of cedar and a flat amber, with patchouli barely dusting the base.
This fragrance is a happy, shallow wave that crashes and evaporates within two hours. The numbers do not lie: longevity sits at a punishing 2.55, sillage barely a murmur at 2.44. It is a skin scent before you have even left the house. For the first hour, though, it is a perfectly pleasant, uncomplicated spritz for a scorching afternoon, a clear bottle of pop that you finish and forget. If you demand a fragrance that announces your presence or lasts through dinner, skip it. But if you want a cheap thrill that smells exactly like a summer day in a mainstream mall, and you are willing to reapply every ninety minutes, this is your guy. It wears best on a hot weekday, when the only expectation is that you smell clean and vaguely sweet. No depth, no drama, just a quick, fizzy high.
