Our take

Sunlight hits the stone terrace and the air carries a sharp bite of bay leaf and clary sage. Pierre de Velay No. 6 sits in that bright warmth, its lemon and bergamot stripped of any candy gloss. The herbs feel dry and purposeful, like a garden clipped that morning. Davana and rose add a soft, slightly dusty floral layer that never turns sweet. Labdanum pulls the flowers toward something resinous, and the leather in the base steps forward without waiting for the daylight to fade.

The scent stays near the skin, moving only a short distance from the wrist. Juniper and cloves keep the leather from feeling heavy, while frankincense and benzoin lay a smooth amber path beneath the herbs. Castoreum and vetiver ground the mix, giving it a quiet weight that does not shout across the space. You notice it when you lift your hand, not when you walk away. The tonka bean rounds the edges just enough to keep the spices from pricking the nose.

Cedar and orris add a clean, root-like dryness that matches the stone under the table. Musk lingers in the background, steady and unobtrusive. The herbs and the resin hold their place for a long stretch, changing slowly as the air warms. Nutmeg and cardamom flicker in and out, never dominating, always part of the same still picture. The terrace remains bright, the glass half full, the air still carrying that same blend of leaf and resin while the day continues.
