Our take

War and Peace opens with a blunt amber that feels less like sweetness and more like old resin, warm and slightly dusty. It doesn’t beg for your attention; it just sits there, waiting. Then the rose arrives: Damask and Taif tangled together, a deep red bloom dusted with orris root’s cold powder. Indian patchouli adds a vegetal darkness, like crushed stems, before the base animals creep in. Castoreum and synthetic civet turn this into a living, sweating hide, while natural musk and ambergris warm everything into a thick, salty pelt. Oakmoss and vetiver ground it in wet earth and smoke.

The overall character is a library at midnight, a worn leather armchair with a forgotten rose petal crushed into the armrest, a fire long burned to embers. It’s heavy, deeply natural in its materials but brazenly synthetic in its civet kick, leaving a trail that lasts eight hours with a sillage that clings close rather than shouting. This is niche to its marrow, uncompromising and proud.

It suits those who want to smell like a secret history, not a clean shower. Skip it if you’re afraid of smelling like you’ve wrestled a musk ox in a rose garden. Wear it only in deep winter, at night, when cold air turns animalic warmth into something almost mystical. At 4.28 stars, it earns its praise, but it will never be polite. 🕰️
